Cultural Heritage in a Comparative Approach: In the Name of Aphrodite

Despite the increasing focus from juridical and social sciences perspectives, cultural heritage remains a subject insufficiently considered from a historical point of view.

Based on a comparative approach, looking at a variety of experiences developed for the management of cultural heritage since the emergence of the protectionist movement, this book analyses UNESCO cultural heritage legislation with regards to the socio-anthropological evolution of the concept of cultural heritage.

Andrea Ragusa is Associate Professor of Contemporary History in the Department of International and Political Sciences at the University of Siena, Italy. After studies devoted to the problem of intellectuals and political language, he now explores the role of politics in cultural heritage management from a historical perspective. His publications include I Giardini delle Muse. Il patrimonio culturale ed ambientale in Italia dalla Costituente alle origini del Ministiero (1946–1975) (2014), which received an award from the Italian Society for the Study of Contemporary History in 2015.
