Seismic Assessment and Retrofit of Reinforced Concrete Columns

Reinforced concrete columns play a very important role in structural performance. As such, it is essential to apply a suitable analytical tool to estimate their structural behaviour considering all failure mechanisms such as axial, shear, and flexural failures. This book highlights the development of a fiber beam-column element accounting for shear effects and the effect of tension stiffening through reinforcement-to-concrete bond, along with the employment of suitable constitutive material laws.

Konstantinos G. Megalooikonomou holds an MEng from Democritus University of Thrace, Greece, and an MSc in Earthquake Engineering from the University of Pavia, Italy. He has worked as a Research Engineer at the University of Rome-Sapienza, the University of Rome-Roma Tre, the University of California Berkeley, USA, and the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences in Potsdam. His PhD studies at the University of Cyprus were funded by a triennial scholarship from the Alexander S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation. His research is concentrated on earthquake engineering, specifically on the seismic assessment and retrofit of reinforced concrete and masonry structures. He has presented 12 papers at international conferences, and has published seven journal articles.
