"[Genetically Modified Organisms: A Scientific-Political Dialogue on a Meaningless Meme is] presents the debate associated with introducing GMOs as a traditional debate between science and progress against dogma. After reading it, I hope that science will win for the sake of all of us."

A Philosophical Approach to Creation Process: Our Lady of the Lamp

This book is about creation as it was conceived by the classical Greeks. The object that is created is very specific. It may be a space vehicle or a plan for a form of government, such as a republic or a kingdom, or may also be a work of art; music, painting or literature. This sort of creation is known by people all over the world in order to do something that has never been done before.

Alastair Beattie holds a Master’s of Fine Arts, and currently serves as Professor of English Literature at the University of the Andes. His latest book is Psyche’s Ego (2011).

“Beattie’s main purpose to discuss the philosophical dimension of creation process (Our Lady of the Lamp) was masterfully accomplished through a series of chapters which reveal the creation process as it was conceived by the classical Greeks. This book thoughtfully presents that creation as a unique process. The necessity to create something implies not only the fact of creating something that is not only new, but that has never been done before. […] Beattie has cleverly organized the book into ten chapters, which, like the sonnets, are not titled. In addition, he has included a preamble with the intention to demonstrate the exigent quality of the task at hand, and that the archetypal labyrinth is in fact a dangerous descent. From the onset of the book, Beattie thoughtfully sets the tone and as in Professor Hallett’s preamble, he offers readers the chance to navigate or be guided ‘into and out of the metaphysical labyrinth’. Beattie’s voice constantly invites and motivates his readers throughout the book and uses two different fonts in his prose to offer readers the chance to engage in a dialogue mood within his internal narrative. […] A Philosophical Approach to Creation Process. Our Lady of the Lamp is deep, engaging, interesting and a fundamental text regarding creation process. I highly recommend it to those engaged with any kind of creation.”
