Pavel Machotka studied at the University of Chicago and Harvard University, USA, where he was awarded a PhD in Social Psychology. Between 1970 and 2000, he taught at the University of California, Santa Cruz, USA, as Emeritus Professor of Psychology. His six books discuss various topics on the arts.

Vladimir Petrov was awarded a PhD degree in 1968 and a DSc in 1993. He is Associate Professor at the University of California, Santa Cruz. For 20 years, he was Vice President of the International Association of Empirical Aesthetics, and he has more than 800 publications to his credit, including 15 monographs.
