A Neglected Prophet

Pastors often avoid the bizarre Book of Ezekiel, yet its message resonates with modern realities. This book masterfully answers: Why, what, and how should we preach from Ezekiel? It makes a difficult prophetic book easy to understand and provides the steps to preaching it today.

Pastors and preachers seldom preach from the Book of Ezekiel because of its difficult and bizarre nature. This also leads to a lack of interest from readers. Ironically, the socio-historical contexts captured in the Book of Ezekiel resonate with modern contextual realities in several ways; hence, neglecting it deprives the community of faith of the benefits from this rich prophetic book. This book masterfully addresses the questions: Why should we preach from the Book of Ezekiel?, What should we preach from the Book of Ezekiel?, and How should we preach from the Book of Ezekiel? It makes the message of a difficult prophetic book easy to understand, also providing the steps to preaching it today.

  • "Ezekiel is a powerful prophet whose words are woefully under-read and rarely preached. I hope many will heed Rev. Dr. Biwul’s call to preach this weighty text. It is full of surprises and spiritual benefits for those who take the time to explore its message."
    - Dr Carmen Joy Imes Associate Professor of Old Testament, Talbot School of Theology, Biola University, USA, and author of Bearing God’s Name: Why Sinai Still Matters.
  • “The book Preaching the Book of Ezekiel: A Neglected Prophet presents painstaking work by the author, Rev. Prof. Joel K.T. Biwul, to answer the fundamental question, Why should we preach from the book of Ezekiel? Biwul proposes a simple way of comprehending a unique Old Testament book which is difficult to understand due to its difficult literary style, graphic imageries, symbols, and metaphors that present a challenge to decipher and find meaning. In this well-researched work, the author dispels the myth that the Book of Ezekiel is not for modern readers. Impressed by this book, I recommend it for all modern readers and preachers of the Word.”
    - Rev Dr Aminu Maiwa’azi Kogi, Pastoral Department Head, ECWA Theological Seminary, Nigeria
  • ““Dry bone shall rise again!” Sermons from Ezekiel most commonly focus on this chapter in the book. But the book is a 48-chapter book that some preachers never touch till they retire from the pulpit. This is the concern of Joel K.T. Biwul, as he faithfully espouses the Book of Ezekiel to us as a “message worth preaching”. With a rich discourse on the context, literary styles, challenges, and benefits of preaching Ezekiel, every preacher has a new resource to enrich their life and preaching ministry. I strongly recommend this book.”
    - Prof Ezekiel Adewale Ajibade, Rector, Baptist College of Theology, Nigeria
