This book takes a historical approach to Einstein’s General Theory of Relativity and shows the importance that geometry has to the theory. Starting from simpler and more general considerations, it goes on to detail the latest developments in the field and considers several cutting-edge research areas. It discusses Einstein’s theory from a geometrical and a field theoretic viewpoint, before moving on to address gravitational waves, black holes and cosmology.

Asghar Qadir obtained his PhD under the supervision of Sir Roger Penrose and has pioneered work in spacetime symmetries. He is the author of a textbook on Special Relativity and has edited 14 books and seven special issues of journals. In addition, his publications include around 200 research journal articles in relativity, astrophysics and cosmology. His work particularly focuses on the rotation of galactic halos and defining the energy content of gravitational waves.
