This book analyses the most important problems and challenges of the current labour market from the point of view of the balance between the parties of the employment contract.

The contributions here are related to various pressing topics, including, for example, the future of work and worker protection on an international level against the strengthening of employers’ powers. In addition, the nature and limits of employers’ power, non-competition contractual clauses and workers’ rights in the face of new communication and information technologies are also discussed. The contributors are drawn from several countries, such as Portugal, Spain, Bolivia, Italy, México and Switzerland.

The book will appeal to lawyers, legal experts, human resources experts, economist, judges, academia, and staff from companies and trade unions, and employers’ representation.

The volume features insights and contributions in different languages, with chapters in Spanish (12), English (4) and Portuguese (5).

Nuno Cerejeira Namora is a lawyer. He gained a Law degree from Lusíada University, a postgraduate degree in Labour Law from Moderna University, and a Master’s degree in Labour Law from Portucalense University Infante D. Henrique, all in Portugal.

Lourdes Mella Méndez is a Professor of Labour Law and Social Security at the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain. She is the author of a large number of books and articles. She is the General Coordinator of the CIELO Laboral Network, www.cielolaboral.com.

Duarte Abrunhosa e Sousa is a lawyer who is a PhD candidate at the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain. He is also a researcher at the University of Oporto, Portugal. He is a founding member of the Associação de Jovens Juslaboralistas and a member of the executive committee of the CIELO Laboral Network.

Gonçalo Cerejeira Namora is a lawyer. He graduated in Law from the University of Porto and earned his Master of Law from the Catholic University of Portugal. His master’s thesis explored the impact of sharing economy on labour relations, and he is currently researching data protection.

Eduardo Castro Marques is a lawyer, having graduated from the University of Porto. He is a founding member and former President of the Board of Associação de Jovens Juslaboralistas. He is currently researching data protection and artificial intelligence.
