Renewable energy sources are currently a particularly pressing need as we all have become addicted to the usage of electrical energy. The extraction of fossil fuels has to be reduced as they are depleting at an ever-increasing rate, which is due to the increase in population and the subsequent rapid urbanization. As a consequence, research into both power-saving electrical appliances and feasible energy sources is ongoing. Thus, it is necessary that future energy sources should be reliable, renewable and eco-friendly. This book includes discussion about renewable energy resources like wind and solar power plants and a comparison between renewable and non-renewable energy sources with valid data from various case studies. In addition, the impact of fossil-fuelled power plants on the environment is discussed and real-time datum from the energy audit of solar power plant are given. The advantages of renewable resources over conventional ones are also explored in detail.

Dr T. Mariprasath received a PhD from the Gandhigram Rural Institute – Deemed University, India, in 2016, and is an Associate Professor at the KSRM College of Engineering (Autonomous), India. His areas of interest include renewable energy resources, power systems, power quality, and smart cities.

Dr V. Kirubakaran is an Assistant Professor in the Rural Energy Centre at the Gandhigram Rural Institute – Deemed University, India. He obtained a PhD in Energy Engineering from the National Institute of Technology, India, in May 2007. He is a recipient of the Young Scientist Fellowship, awarded by the Department of Science and Technology of the Government of India. He has published more than twenty papers in various national and international journals, in addition to authoring seven books. His areas of interest include energy engineering and gasification.

Dr M. Ravindaran received a PhD from the Gandhigram Rural Institute – Deemed University, India, in 2014, and is an Associate Professor at the National Engineering College, India. His areas of interest include energy efficient drives, green insulating oil, and soft computing.
